I know you are going to think this is the most retarded thing ever, but here it goes.....
I MADE GOOD RICE LAST NIGHT! OMG! I am sooooo happy about this, but I knew you would think it was stupid! To me, and my poor husband, it's amazing! You see, my husband and his family are all cajun and they eat rice with EVERYTHING! I swear, they eat it with sooo much stuff. Gumbo, chicken with gravy, pot roast, beef stew, you name it...they put rice in it. Okay so, my husband always expects rice when I cook any of the above. I SUCK at making rice! It's either not done all the way, crunchy, sticky, gooey...something always goes wrong...and I have a rice cooker! Anyone that knows me, knows that I can cook. I can even get real fancy if I want to and I love to cook from scratch! I don't know what it is about stupid rice! Well, it's done...it's over. I did it! I made REALLY GOOD rice last night! My husband even said so. I was so thrilled about this that I decided I needed to take a picture for you guys...
Isn't it beautiful?

I'm horrible at making good rice too! It was like you were talking about me when I read this post. How did you get it to turn out right? Congrats :-)!
It's amazing. It was actually soooo easy. I don't know what I was wrong doing before! My husband was watching to make sure I did everything right. All I did was put the amount of rice and water that I wanted, then I added a tiny bit of salt, put the lid on, and waited until it was done cooking. I did not even lift the lid until it was done. Then, I took the lid off and let it sit for a minute or two before I touched it, so that it wouldn't be gooey. It all seems so easy and common-sense like. I don't know what I was doing before, but I am sooo glad I have this figured out now. And thanks for your comment! It's soooo nice to know that I'm not the ONLY one that sucks at this! :)

Hey in my younger years my girls would tell people "Mama is a good cooker but she always burns the rice". Well I finally decided to learn how to cook rice. If you put enough water in to cover that equal the depth of the first knuckle of your index finger and sent it on the fire to come to a rolling boil. Then cover it and turn it down to simmer and let it simmer for twenty minuets. You have to time it. Then it will be real good rice. I am from Cajun country too (Southeast Texas) but my husband of 48years was from Oklahoma and they only ate rice as a cereal. But soon after our marriage he learned to eat rice like us. Hope you have many good years like I had. He passed away last November. I am not interested in entering your contest just curious to see what you were offering.Have a very blessed day and many happy Valentines together. Emily Weaver
